Summer Vacations: The Best Places to Go with your Families West Coast Edition

As summer winds down, it is the perfect time to plan one last summer escape. From girls trips to family vacations, Always for Me has pulled together a list of destinations that are sure to fit everyone’s taste.

These vacations are the perfect places to show off your fashionista side.  Grab your favorite plus size bathing suits, and your plus size cover up for easy transitions from the beach or coast to the bar scenes downtown.

Below are the West Coast destinations that you will want to try this summer!

1.   Portland

Portland has become the new “it” destination.  With city sightseeing, the Oregon coast, and hiking just outside the city you can do it all! Portland also has a major food scene with endless restaurants and craft beers (for the 21+ members of the trip). If you love trying new foods, then this is a destination to go to!

Some great places to try: Voodoo Donuts and Salt and Straw (ice cream store)!

If you are looking to relax on this vacation, take a day trip to the coast.  This way you can lounge in your favorite plus size swimsuit and read your favorite magazine, or just soak up the sun.  Afterward, you can head back into the city for dinner and a bar night.  It’s the best of both worlds.

After relaxing on the coast you may want to try a hike.  Mount Hood is a great day trip to take. This easy hike takes travelers to waterfalls and the Hood River.  You will be able to stop for lunch along the way and take some amazing pictures. This hike is a great place to throw on your plus size athletic gear!

2. San Francisco

San Francisco is a great city to visit, and, thankfully, since you are going in the summer, you should be rain-free! There are many great activities to do in San Francisco, but you must be sure to go to the Golden Gate Bridge.  It’s the landmark that sets San Francisco apart from every other city, and you will want to get that perfect Instagram. Is sightseeing on your list? A fun way to see the entire city is on the cable cars that run through San Francisco.  It’s a great way to see the city, and to let your kids have fun, especially if they have a love for trains!

The Fisherman’s Wharf is a classic tourist destination.  Right on the sea, this port is filled with fun seafood restaurants and souvenir shops that your kids will beg you to go into.  Make sure to stop and take a picture of the Sea Lions, you won’t want to miss them!

3. Los Angeles

Los Angeles, home to movie stars and Hollywood productions.  LA has endless activities, and always has perfect weather. Some activities that many people love going to are: celebrity sightseeing tours, a walk down Rodeo Drive, Hollywood movie sets, and many more.

If you love fashion then be sure to take a walk down Rodeo Drive, and window shop! This iconic drive is just what you need for a break from sightseeing!  You can find the latest trends in window shopping, and then later purchase items at an affordable price. This fun activity is a great way to relax before or after lunch.

LA has the best of both worlds: sightseeing and the beach.  If you want to take a break from some sightseeing, rent a car and drive down to Hollywood Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for some relaxation and sun!

During the day, you can look hot in your plus size swimsuit, and then let your kids have fun at the Santa Monica Pier at night.  With endless arcade games and the famous Ferris wheel, this is the perfect stop after a long day at the beach!

Are there any sports fans in your group?  If so, make sure to stop by an LA Dodgers game.  Baseball games are always a fun activity to do one night, and it’s fun to explore a new stadium!

4. National Parks

Ok, it’s technically not East or West Coast specific, but do you love the outdoors and hiking? Then you should be sure to go to some national parks this summer.  Two of my favorite parks are Bryce Canyon and Zion in Utah.  There are hikes for every person, and the views are amazing. The views are as postcard perfect as you could imagine.

One of my favorite hikes in Zion was a water hike.  When it’s the middle of summer it tends to get very hot in the desert, but not with this hike! The water never raises above a child’s knees and it is a great way to see the mountains and stay cool.  The whole family, especially kids, are sure to love this unique hike.

Another great location would be the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan.  The Sleeping Bear Dunes has it all: beaches, forests, and dunes for hiking.  You and your friends or family can take a nice vacation and do a little of each.

This is a great destination for you to take out that plus size swimsuit, you have been saving for this trip.  With time to relax at the beach, you are sure to enjoy yourself with a magazine.

After taking some time to relax on the beach, take out those water shoes and explore the dunes.  This is the perfect time to grab that plus size cover up and take a hike up the sand dunes. The cover-up will keep you cool and comfortable while enjoying your time with friends and family.

Another place that you won’t want to miss is the Grand Canyon in Arizona, one of the most famous national parks. The most popular times to go are at sunrise or sunset because of the shadows the sun makes on the canyon.  I have heard the view is breathtaking.

If you are not a morning person, and can’t stay out too late at night, then don’t worry! The views are just as beautiful during the day.  If you go during the day, you can also ensure full light when hiking!

Don’t forget to bring your camera and hiking shoes for these destinations!
