7 Cooling Summer Snacks

August 21, 2018

By Courtney Obeirne

The best way to cool off in the summer after a long day at the beach, pool or office is with a great refreshing snack.

Always for Me pulled together a list of the most refreshing summer snacks that are sure to keep you cool this summer!

1. Popsicles

Popsicles are one of the epitomes of summer fun! They are perfect for adults and kids and instantly cool you down.

Without being as filling as ice cream, and a fraction of the calories, you still get the satisfaction of something sweet.  This is the perfect poolside snack for your kids or when chatting with your girlfriends, while still looking hot in your plus size swimwear.

You can easily pick them up at the grocery store for a quick fix.

Pro Tip: You can make your own popsicles for a fraction of the price with fruit juice.  Feel free to add in real pieces of fruit for extra texture and flavor. Check out this fruit popsicle recipe

2. Avocado Toast

Get in on this latest trend: avocado toast! This is perfect for a summer day.  Whether it’s your breakfast or just a snack, it doesn’t matter because it’s great for both!

It looks and tastes great, perfect for Instagram, and is actually a fun, healthy snack! Avocados are a healthy fat with nutritious oils that are great to add to your diet to maintain your daily nutrients.

Not only are avocados healthy, but avocado toast is super quick to make and customizable.  All you have to do is mash up some avocados and toast some bread. Then the fun part – toppings!  Some great toppings to have with or on your toast are eggs, veggies, meats, and it goes perfectly with a side of fruit!

3. Snow Cones

Snow cones are a fun activity to do with your kids and are perfect for a summer BBQ.  Snow cones make a scorching day more bearable!

There are a few ways to make snow cones: a snow cone machine shaved ice from the grocery store, or crushing the ice yourself (maybe this will get some of your kids’ energy out)!

Then the fun part – flavors!  There are many colorful, and tasty syrups to choose from – blueberry, raspberry, and cotton candy to name a few.  These syrups can be picked up at your local grocery store and brought home for your latest afternoon of fun.

4. Smoothies

If it’s a hot summer day smoothies are a great fix to cooling down instantly.  As an added bonus, smoothies are both sweet and healthy and will keep you looking amazing in your plus size swimwear for the long beach and pool days.

Smoothies are a great snack to make at home. For fresh smoothies start with your favorite fruit and cut up into tiny pieces, add some yogurt and milk, and finally ice to make it nice and cold. Or better yet, to make it even more simple, instead of fresh fruit use fruit juice.

Smoothies are not only a great afternoon snack, but they are perfect for breakfast if you are running late to work, or dropping your kids off at school.  They take about 5 minutes to make, and fill you up so you are ready for the day ahead!

Pro Tip: If you are afraid of your fruit going bad before you have time to eat it, smoothies are a great way to use all of your fruit up.  You can also use frozen fruit to make a smoothie, and this way, you don’t have to worry about wasting your fruit!

5. Hummus

Hummus is an easy and filling snack and goes with a variety of different foods.

Some veggie options for hummus are carrots, celery, and peppers.  These can be cut up from your garden or grocery store, and make for a healthy afternoon snack.

If you are craving a salty snack pair hummus with pretzels, pita or tortilla chips.  This way the hummus fills you up, and you feel satisfied.

Pro Tip: Many brands of hummus have a variety of flavors.  For example, if you want a little kick to your afternoon snack, opt for the spicy hummus!

6. Infused Water

While you may be thinking, “wait this isn’t a snack,” it is important to remain hydrated during the hot summer days.  Water makes your skin stay healthy, and makes you have more energy.

To mix up the usual water, try a simple drink infuser. It is very simple to make: take your favorite fruit (lime, lemon, strawberries, etc), and add it to your water.  The juice will infuse into your water, and make your drink taste fun with minimal calories as compared to fruit juices.

These infused waters are perfect for when you are lying by the pool or beach in your favorite plus size bathing suit, and add some fun/variety to the day. As an added bonus, you can put them in a jar to make them look pretty for hanging out with your friends!

Pro Tip: You do not need a water infused pitcher to make your drink.  Instead, for a larger quantity, make your infused drink by dropping your favorite fruit into a large water bottle.

7. Fruit Bowl

Are you looking for a quick and refreshing snack while chatting with friends or lying by the pool in your Always for Me plus size swimwear?  You don’t have to think twice because a fruit bowl is a perfect snack or side to your breakfast or lunch.

Pick up some of your favorite fruits from your grocery store or garden, and mix them together, so that you have the best fruit combination for you.  My personal favorite: kiwi, mango, and blueberries.

You can even drizzle some honey on top if you are craving even more sweetness.

Pro Tip: You can use frozen fruit to save money so that you don’t have to worry about fresh fruit going bad.  It tastes just as good as fresh fruit, and it can stay in your freezer forever.
