Annual T.E.A.L Walk to End Ovarian Cancer
T.E.A.L. Walk is a non-competitive 5K event that coincides with National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Participants include survivors, caregivers, families, and friends coming together to raise awareness of, and promote a cure for ovarian cancer. In addition to the Walk, there will be plenty of enjoyable activities and educational booths. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund; the leading independent agency dedicated to advancing ovarian cancer research in the United States.
“All I knew about this type of cancer was that it was one of the deadliest cancers to have,” says Louisa McGregor, President and Co-Founder of T.E.A.L., Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer, Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation “I was 41 years old when I was diagnosed. I now know why prognosis and survival of this cancer is so poor: It is because doctors do not have all the knowledge, understanding and tools to help with early detection, which all comes down to lack of funding for research.”
Not one to give up, Louisa has since dedicated herself to promoting education, early detection, prevention and awareness for all women regarding this disease. She has spoken about ovarian cancer on NBC’s The Today Show, Channel 12 News, and been in many Public Service Announcements including ones for Stand Up To Cancer and Gilda’s Club NYC.
Anyone who wants to participate or sponsor is encouraged to register right away either online at www.tealwalk.org/ or by mailing in a registration form.
The walk took place on September 12, 2009, however, donations are still being accepted.
